After a nearly two-year hiatus, we are again dedicating and celebrating the opening of new buildings on all three colleges. Today, October 29, we celebrate the dedication of the College Center at Orange Coast College. Meanwhile, we are looking forward to the completion of the Language Arts Complex at Golden West College and Student Services Support Center at Coastline College.
Last week, I wrote about gratitude for the accomplishments of students, faculty, staff, and managers. The community is another group we should remember to thank. Our colleges are part of the community, educating the community, for the benefit of the community. That is our mission and guiding purpose.
It is therefore welcomed when the community demonstrates its willingness to invest in us. The Measure M community-bond program provided necessary funds for construction, and it also showed that we are doing work that is important to voters and taxpayers. Enough so that those who live in our District are investing $698 million into new and renewed facilities.
For those who live within the borders of the Coast District, while working at the District or at a College, a two-fold thank you. Your support is creating a better experience for our students and your colleagues.
We should also embrace a shared role as community advocates and influencers. Our doors are open again! Many classes will be back in person this Spring. And it is time to begin sharing these wonderful new educational settings – provided by our community – with the students of this community.
Be well,
John
