Thank you to everyone who is finishing up preparations for the return of students on Monday, June 13. While this next term is "more normal" than many of our previous, precautions are still in place including the indoor masking mandate. I appreciate the gentle reminders that faculty have provided to students on this requirement.
For staff and managers, I continue to monitor transmission levels in Orange County and California as a whole in determining when to take the next step in restoring full in-person operations and services. As promised, any decision will be communicated well in advance to provide an opportunity for adjustment.
In recognition of Pride Month, I also want to acknowledge LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and managers. I appreciate all those who organized programming specific to the LGBTQ+ community last semester, while most of our students were still on campus or online. I also want to recognize the sustained work of our Student Life and Leadership Offices, Title IX Offices, Health Centers, and student-led organizations.
We should all be proud of those navigating critical phases of their personal and social development. Early adulthood can be particularly complex for our LGBTQ+ students, especially those who have not had access to adequate information and support earlier in life. We are a better District and better Colleges when we honor the varied experiences of our students and colleagues.
Be well,
John
