Welcome back to our staff and managers, and to those faculty joining us early in the year!
I hope you enjoyed your holiday while avoiding the worst of the weather and travel delays. There is a different holiday greeting I heard this year, "may your holiday season be gentle and kind." For many of us, there is a struggle associated with times of celebration. Please know that you are not alone if that struggle is yours, and I extend a gentle greeting of kindness.
To share good news, enrollment numbers for the Spring 2023 term are looking good. We appear to be on a slight incline. This is consistent with our enrollment recovery projections shared with the Board of Trustees last year, so let's keep up the good work and momentum.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. On Monday, the colleges and District Office will be closed in honor of his life and the continuing work of the Civil Rights Movement. For some this is a day of service, for others a day of rest and reflection. However you mark the day, please take a moment to think on how we might create a more equitable future for our students.
I look forward to the good work ahead alongside all of you.
With gratitude,
Whitney
Whitney Yamamura, Ed.D.
Chancellor

The department of Basic Needs, under the direction of Student Equity, provides food assistance for all Coastline students who are experiencing immediate food insecurity through the Coastline Food Pantry, scheduled Food Box pick up, and information about the Cal Fresh Program . During the Fall 2022 semester, the Food Pantry successfully served over 1,200 Coastline students at its weekly Food Pantry programming and in Food Box Pick Up. The Coastline Food Pantry supports students' nutritional needs with both perishable and non-perishable items available free of charge through weekly programming and Food Box pick up. Food Boxes are available beyond the designated Food Pantry days and contain non-perishable items (does not include fresh fruits or vegetables).
