Blue waves behind the words Coast Colleges in dark blue

Weekly News Brief | June 3, 2023

Today, Coastline College celebrates its commencement. With Golden West College and Orange Coast College's commencements last week, that officially brings the 2022-23 academic year to a close. I want to mark this time of transition for many of us. Of course, this is my first year with the Coast District. Yet, the changes we experienced went so much further.

As the pandemic precautions that defined so much of the past few years came to an end, college life has reemerged in a stunning way. We've been able to connect in person with colleagues, students, and the community. We've also learned to navigate a more hybrid existence, as the lessons of what worked remotely have merged with a restoration of what was lost in physical presence.

Periods of rapid change can be draining. For those heading out on break, please enjoy this chance to relax, renew, and refocus. For those continuing with us during the summer, please take this opportunity of relative quiet to take some well-earned vacation and complete those necessary tasks that we all put off during busier times.

Supporting the success and wellness of our students requires that we are addressing our own wellness and conditions for success. In that spirit, I wish you all a wonderful summer.

With gratitude,

 Whitney
