Congratulations on a successful first week of classes for Fall 2023. Chief Information Technology Officer Rupa Saran and I completed the traditional pizza delivery for Admissions and Records staff at all three colleges. My sense, confirmed by reports heard throughout the week, was that this week felt much livelier and akin to the first-week energy pre-pandemic.
Our registration data is offering good news as well. Last year, we ended up a little more than three percent from the year prior. This week, we appear to be up about three percent again. By census, we may end up closer to two percent above last year. Either way, that is a significant improvement from our goal and a positive sign for the future.
The time will quickly arrive in the semester to resume tough conversations about multi-year budgets and strategic growth, yet for today we should celebrate. Our mission and professional fulfillment are found in education. In that spirit, every student who walks through our doors is a success.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
With gratitude,
Whitney

COASTLINE COLLEGE |
Congratulations to Coastline's Jessica Lopez for becoming a 2023 Voyager Scholarship recipient! Created by the Obamas and Airbnb's Brian Chesky, this scholarship program is for young leaders who are ready to make their mark in public service - something that Jessica has already started with her work and involvement as Coastline's Associated Student Government President. The two-year scholarship program is open to students entering their junior year of college at an accredited four-year college or university in the US, who have demonstrated a financial need, and who are US citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients. The 2023-2025 cohort of 100 Voyagers represent 33 states and territories, 74 colleges and universities. The scholarship awards each student with $50,000 in financial aid, over $30,000 in travel opportunities and mentorship to support the next generation of leaders.
