Wishing You a Successful Spring Semester
First off, I want to wish you all a happy start to the Spring 2024 semester. Some students are coming to us for the first time while others are continuing their higher education journey. It is your energy, care, encouragement, and support, that makes the difference and propels our students forward.
I have said this before, but it bears repeating: We are the great engine of social mobility and the key to our students' prosperity. Each one of us plays a role in support of students. I greatly appreciate all of your hard work and dedication and making Coast Colleges the institution of choice for thousands in our community.
This semester, as with every semester, will have its highs and lows, some that we might predict others that will catch us by surprise. Take a moment in the hustle and bustle of the first week to pause, look around, and enjoy the energy and excitement of launching a new semester. When the stresses of the semester set in, remember the key role you play in the lives of our students and know that you are appreciated.
Wishing you all a successful and fulfilling Spring semester.
With gratitude,
Whitney
Whitney Yamamura, Ed.D.

Persistent Innovation
|
Submitted by Coastline College's John Bruning, CCCD Student Trustee, who has been instrumental in helping Coastline veterans
Through the Hope Heroes program, Coastline College's Veterans Resource Center (VRC) is using ongoing funding provided by the state to send back-to-school packages to approximately 60 veteran inmates every semester. The care packages include pens, pencils, paper, notepads, notecards, post-it notes, highlighters, calculators, and a clear file folder. The thank you letter to the staff in the VRC at Coastline shows the impact our persistent innovation can have on the success of our students.
Please send examples of persistent innovation, by which I mean having a good idea and then putting in the hard work to make that vision a reality. The more examples submitted, the better I can highlight your successes in future letters and in the community!

Coastline College President, Dr. Vince Rodriguez proudly welcomed CSUF President, Dr. Sylvia Alva and her invited guest to the campus for a community forum to understand how higher education can contribute to the aspirations and needs of Orange County's Vietnamese American community. It is important to remember that the Vietnamese American community in Orange County is the largest Vietnamese population outside of the country of Vietnam.
