Marlene Drinkwine begins as vice chancellor of finance and administrative services for the Coast Community College District today, July 1, 2022. Vice Chancellor Drinkwine's selection was ratified by the Board of Trustees in April following an open search.
"The Coast District wholeheartedly welcomes Vice Chancellor Drinkwine, a proven leader with great understanding and care for the communities we educate," said Coast District Chancellor John Weispfenning. "Marlene's student-centered and participatory approach to the administration of community colleges is readily apparent in all she says and does."
Vice Chancellor Drinkwine dedicated her nearly 30-year career to public-school finance and administrative leadership. She most recently served as vice president of business services with the neighboring Long Beach Community College District. She is a proud product of California community colleges having started her higher education with an associate's degree in accounting from Cerritos Community College. She also holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in business administration.
As the Coast District's vice chancellor of finance and administrative services, Ms. Drinkwine will oversee a broad portfolio that includes budget, finance, accounting, purchasing, risk management, environmental health and safety, and facilities. This role is critical to the Coast District's emergence from the COVID-19 pandemic and response to the changing landscape of educational funding and delivery.
"I am honored to join the Coast District and look forward to serving the District, it's students, faculty, and staff, and all our communities," Vice Chancellor Drinkwine said. "There are amazing teams working every day to make the college experience better, and it is thrilling to be a part of that transformation."
Vice Chancellor Drinkwine is following Dr. Andy Dunn, who retired from the Coast Community College District on June 30, 2022.
