The Coast Community College District has appointed Meridith Randall to serve as the Interim President of Golden West College.

A results-driven leader with nearly 30 years of experience in higher education, Randall has served as the vice president of instruction at Golden West for the past three years. Prior to joining GWC, she served as a chief instruction officer in the California Community College system for 17 years and has served as president of the statewide CIO organization twice.

"Interim President Randall brings a tremendous amount of experience and expertise to the role," said Coast District Board President Mary Hornbuckle. "We are fortunate to have a leader who has demonstrated commitment and care for community college students throughout her career."

During her three decades of service, Randall has been an accreditation liaison officer for five different institutions; served on several visiting accreditation teams; participated on state advisory committees for dual enrollment, institutional effectiveness and online education; and has supported the development of multiple career technical education programs. She also has served as director of programs and educational effectiveness for the California Virtual Campus and helped lead the effort to develop a statewide online course exchange.

In her career, Randall has worked at five different community colleges, including Mendocino College and Shasta College. She began her career as an English instructor at Palau Community College in 1993, eventually becoming Dean of Academic Affairs there.

"I have had the fortune of working alongside Meridith as a friend and colleague for several years in our shared service to the California Community Colleges," said Coast District Chancellor Whitney Yamamura. "She is a person of great character and thoughtfulness, as well as possessing keen insight into our complex college systems."

Randall has a bachelor's degree from Amherst College, a master's degree from Cornell University and a Juris Doctor degree from New York University School of Law.

Randall's appointment begins immediately through June 30, 2023. An interim appointment may be extended through completion of the search for permanent president, which is expected to take up to one year.
