Coast District Melissa Jauregui Announced as the 2024 Classified Employee of the Year by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office

Classified professional, Melissa Jauregui, has been announced as the 2024 Classified Employee of the Year by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. Jauregui will receive the award during the Board of Governors meeting in Sacramento, CA on Monday, May 20. The meeting and awarding are set to coincide with the Classified Employee Appreciation week. Jauregui's role as Program Support Specialist for the Coast Community College District (CCCD) earned her this prestigious award with a nomination by CCCD Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Technology, Dr. Andreea Serban.

"We are extremely fortunate to have Melissa on our team," said Dr. Serban. "Melissa has extensive knowledge and expertise in the many areas that her position requires including curriculum, graduation requirement, transfer articulation, and impact of academic programs on financial aid eligibility. She is a consummate professional, a self-starter, and a critical thinker with an exceptional work ethic and ability to analyze issues and develop timely solutions."

Melissa Jauregui has dedicated her career to enriching the lives of students in higher education with more than 20 years of working in the California Community College and California State University systems. Her passion for higher education and her commitment to student success are evident in all her endeavors, which expanded to CCCD in 2018.

Melissa enrolled in and completed a master's degree in administration (MSA) at California State University, Bakersfield in December 2020. The MSA program focused on organizational behavior, research methods/statistics, policy process and policy analysis, ethics, public management, leadership, planning, and program evaluation/performance measurement.

Dr. Serban said, "Melissa is a skilled communicator with a great sense of humor, and a respected and much appreciated colleague across the Coast Community College District. It is a real pleasure working with Melissa. I congratulate Melissa for this most deserved state-wide recognition."

The Classified Employee of the Year Award has been presented annually since May 2009 to honor community college classified employees who demonstrate the highest level of commitment to Vision 2030, the mission of the California Community College System, and their local district. Jauregui's nomination was endorsed by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Award recipients are selected by representatives from the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, Consultation Council, and the Chancellor's Office.

The Classified Employee of the Year Awards are supported through a grant from the Foundation for California Community Colleges.
